4th Sunday in Lent (Year C)
March 6th, 2016
Here's a confession for the 4th Sunday in Lent (Year C) - Lent 4C - inspired by Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32 (the story of the Prodigal Son), Psalm 32, and 2 Corinthians 5:16-21.
Call to Confession
Scripture tells us that many are the torments of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds those who trust in the Lord.
With trust and humility, let us come before the Lord
who desires that we acknowledge our sin with penitent hearts.
Prayer of Confession
Merciful God,
in you we have found our inheritance
and received much more than we have ever deserved.
However, we have often squandered that inheritance,
choosing to spoil it rather than share it with others.
Forgive us for the moments when we have been selfish
and simply set our sights on our own desires instead of others' needs.
Broaden our gaze that we might live righteous lives
pleasing to you and beneficial to your eternal kingdom.
Greet us as the forgiving father greeted his wayward son.
Welcome us home for we long to live within your faithfulness.
This we pray in name of the One whom we adore, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Friends, hear this promise of scripture:
"So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:
everything old has passed away;
see, everything has become new!"
Instead of being bound to his sinful past,
the prodigal son found newness in his father's forgiveness.
So, too, have we found newness in God's mercy!
Friends, I announce to you this day our sins have been forgiven. Amen.
