"A Fearful, Desperate Mother"
/Here's a hymn that is the tenth in a series I’m writing that is inspired by A Sanctified Art’s upcoming 12-week creative bundle, "“Unraveled.” It is written in 7.6.7.6 D and is sung to the tune, AURELIA, which is commonly used to sing “The Church’s One Foundation.” However, since it’s written in 7.6.7.6 D, it could work with many different tunes. If you would like it notated to a different tune, please let me know and I’ll be happy to get it done! It’s inspired by Exodus 2:1-10.

A fearful, desperate mother protects her precious child.
She puts him on a basket into the river wild.
She watches from a distance, his vessel floats away.
And though her heart is grieving, God’s plan is underway.
The daughter of the Pharaoh is bathing in the Nile.
She looks upon the river and sees the floating child.
Her heart is filled with mercy, she pities his poor plight.
She longs to be a mother; this child, her true delight.
A child born into peril now lives in Pharaoh’s court.
A tyrant’s thirst for power at risk within his fort.
A daughter finds a newborn, a young one almost drowned.
A mother’s plan unravels, but hope again is found.
Though Pharaoh rules with fury, his plans unravels fast.
He thinks he’ll build his kingdom by slaving the outcast.
A mother’s desperation gives birth to God’s design -
A plan to free God’s people, destroying Pharaoh’s shrine.
